April 2024-“Sorry, I was busy”
Revelations 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
The church of the Laodiceans had become lukewarm, they weren’t on fire but they hadn’t quit Church yet…they were stuck! Further on in this text they are challenged to invest in the “purity” of the gospel without tainting it in order to validate their lukewarm condition.
When you think about being lukewarm what comes to mind? I would submit to you that many of the things that control our lives have made us lukewarm without even realizing it, or at least have the possibility of doing so.
The never ending ringing of the phone, dinging of the notification or thinking of that post/tweet/etc. I was thinking recently of a missed phone call, I called back to explain that I was “tied up” on the other line. It caused me to wonder how many times I’ve been “tied up” when the Lord tried to get through to me or tried to get my attention in order to speak direction or give an answer?
How many times have I used the excuse, “I apologize I’ve been busy?”
I believe we need a wake up call to reality that many of the conveniences of life have hindered our ability to hear or receive from the Lord because “we’re busy”. I believe the Lord is saying to the church today, “I don’t want you lukewarm, but I would rather you be hot or cold”. I challenge you to make a concentrated effort to eliminate some of the distractions from your life so when He comes knocking, we will hear him and run to open the door.
I no longer want “sorry I was busy” to be a valid reason for not hearing the Lord when he shows up, but I want to always be attentive and ready so that I can invite him in and we can sup together!
