July 2023 – A Nobody or a Somebody
Matthew 23:12 – “whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased (brought down); and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted”.
I heard a quote recently; “To serve well, we must become nobody“. Another quote said; “When I was somebody, I was a nobody. When I became nobody, I was a somebody”.
One of the most important factors in serving God is learning to humble ourselves and to bring our self to a place where we are not needing recognition, where we are not seen and God is the only one exalted through our life. We spend our whole life trying to be somebody, trying to be recognized, trying to be important, trying to feel accomplished; which in itself is not necessarily wrong but we often fail to realize how this is in direct conflict with scripture. I want to encourage you today to work on being a nobody so Jesus can be the only one seen. Pray about humility and ask God to bring you down so God can then lift you up.
When God lifts us up, He exalts us in the eyes of men. He causes others to esteem and to honor us but when we seek those things, pride slips in and pride comes before our fall. You can choose today whether you want to be somebody or whether you want to be nobody, but if you choose to be nobody God will always lift you up and make you somebody.
